653 Extension of ministry term in Cooperative Ventures

653.1 Introduction

The original ministry term is clearly stated in the letter of appointment at the time of induction.

653.2 Procedure

a) At least twelve months before the initial ministry term ends the JRC advises the appointing church of that fact.  (See 424.3)

b) The responsible authority in the appointing church appoints a convenor of the review team.

c) The convenor discusses with minister and partner whether they would accept an extension if it is offered (See 424.4)

d) If the response is in the negative, JRC is advised and process for considering denomination of next minister is begun.  If an extension is to be considered or there is any uncertainty, the JRC is advised, which then arranges other members of the review team to be appointed.  These members are drawn from the Partners together with one from the JRC.  (See 424.6 and 424.7)

e) The review committee seeks a response from the Partners.  (See 424.8)

f) giving at least two clear Sunday's notice.  (See 424.9(a-c))

g) Review committee conducts meeting with parish council for considering a possible extension.  (minister, partner and ministerial colleagues do not attend meeting) (See 424.9 (d-h))

h) Committee considers recommendation of meeting, together with views of colleagues of minister and views of Partners.  Convenor discusses recommendation with minister and partner.  (See 424.9 (i))

i) Convenor advises JRC of decision of review committee.  (See 424.9 (j))

j) JRC considers recommendation and then advises regional Partners courts of JRC's decision.  At the same time minister and parish council are informed of decision.  (See 424.10)

k) Appointing church, minister or parish council have thirty days to make a response to the decision.  If a contrary response is received review committee considers matter.  (See 424.11)

l) Not later than two months after receiving the recommendation the JRC confirms or modifies the recommendation.  JRC advises Partners that the consultation is complete and either extension of ministry for a specified term is requested or that the ministry terminates at end of current period.  (See 424.12)

m) Appointing church considers recommendation and advises minister, parish council and JRC of action.

653.3 Completion

This procedure must be completed not less than six months before the initial term is due to expire.
